katie smith
director & writer
Hello! I’m Katie — a director and writer originally from Hertfordshire, now based in London after stints in Scotland and Australia.
A graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the University of York, my work spans theatre, new and devised work, literature, music, and opera. No matter the medium, my work is always brave, bold, and contemporary, and focuses on social inequality and justice, protecting the natural world, and averting the climate crisis.
I’ve worked with companies including Opera North, Scottish Opera, Edinburgh International Festival, Mahogany Opera, Barrel Organ Theatre, Fairly Lucid Productions, and Heartstring Theatre. My fiction and feature writing has been published in SNACK, Gutter, and Splinter magazines.
Outside of my work, you can find me roller-skating, eating enthusiastically, adventuring in the great outdoors, or plunging into the nearest body of water.
“An outstanding production of highly challenging material. The clever approach to a difficult staging and the performances of the cast are truly impressive.”

“This […] staging pulled off every aspect of an unforgettable performance – acting, direction, sound, set and costume design, and lighting. Cast and crew are to be congratulated for a seamless delivery. Choreography, blocking, pace, transitions, and use of the space were extraordinary.”
